D.C. Anonymous to hold summer rally on the National Mall
Hundreds expected from across the nation to protest against the Church of Scientology’s tax exempt status

WASHINGTON – The Anonymous of Washington, D.C., have invited members of Anonymous around the country to join them on July 19, 2008, at the Lincoln Memorial to protest against the Church of Scientology’s tax exempt status and human rights abuses.

Members of Anonymous – a leaderless, Internet-based citizens’ awareness group – have held worldwide rallies every month beginning in February, with members in over 50 major cities in the United States taking part. July’s demonstration in Washington, however, will be the first in which all of Anonymous has been invited to attend a single event.

There are over 500 active members of Anonymous in the Washington, D.C.-Baltimore area, and the rally is expected to draw hundreds more. Within 48 hours of the announcement on popular Anonymous forums, members of Anonymous nationwide and from as far away as San Francisco announced their intentions to attend the Washington rally.

Speaking invitations have been sent out to many prominent critics of the Church of Scientology, long-time and recent. The Anonymous of D.C. will send out releases as speakers confirm their attendance, as well as regularly post developments to its forum, http://www.anonymousdc.com, its recently-launched YouTube channel, http://www.youtube.com/user/AnonymousofDC, and the worldwide Anonymous hub, http://www.enturbulation.org.
